Google New Years Eve Search Algorithm Update
There has been a ton of chatter within the SEO community over the past couple of days related to extreme ranking volatility within the Google Search results. The Google tracking tools have also picked up the volatility over the past day or so. There is no way Google pushed out a confirmed update this week but hey, Google's search results live a life of their own.

No one should be surprised to hear that I am reporting on some intense Google search ranking volatility starting this Friday, December 22nd, through the weekend, with things seeming to calm down today, Sunday, December 24th. Google Advertiser Verification Program To Accept DBAs
Google Ads has this advertiser verification program and now advertisers can use their DBAs ("doing business as") or trade names for that verification. Google said these names are accepted if the legal documents also state the names and in many legal documents, it does ask for DBAs to be listed.

Google Analytics 4 Subproperties Now Integrates With AdSense
Google announced additional integration support between Google Analytics 4 and AdSense. Google originally added integration in June 2023 between GA4 and AdSense but now "if you're using GA4 subproperties or roll-up properties, you can establish links between those properties and AdSense accounts independently from the source properties," Google said.

Google Search Results Get It By December 24 Section (Christmas)
A couple of years ago, Google added a filter to its shopping search results for "get it by" a specific date. Now with the Google Search results getting more e-commerce-like, Google added that filter to the side bar for some queries and also is testing a new section to get the gifts by Christmas, by December 24th.

Microsoft To Bring Deep Search To Bing Chat / Copilot But It Is Way Too Slow Now

Google Local Notice When Review Posting Is Turned Off
At the beginning of this year we covered the updated posting restrictions guidelines for Google Maps where Google said they can turn off posting for a particular place. Well, we are now seeing an example of that in action, where Google is testing the reviewer that posting has been turned off.

Google has confirmed it is looking into reports of Google Search showing the wrong image for the story it displays in the search results. Recently Google has been showing the headshot of the reporter, instead of showing the main article's image, for some top stories images in the search results.

Google Adds Programmatic Support For Limited Ads With AdSense, AdMob & Ad Manager
Google sent an email to AdSense, AdMob and Ad Manager users saying they are "launching support for programmatic bidding on inventory eligible for Limited ads." Limited ads (LTD) give publishers the ability to serve ads in a limited way. Limited ads disable the collection, sharing, and use of personal data for personalization of ads.

Google is testing bolding the name of the business within the local panel in the search results. I was unable to replicate this but my screenshot shows my company name in normal text, while the test shows a bolded font for the company name.

Google Product Results Showing Prices With 30 Day Low
Google now can show if a price is the lowest it has been in a 30-day period. This can show in the product listing results for your Google search results. Google will add the green font to the discounted price but also add the words "30-day low" to the result.

As a reminder, in August, Google stopped showing the How-to rich results on the mobile search results, and then in September, they did the same for desktop results. Google Hanukkah Decorations Are Live For 2023
Hanukkah (aka Chanukah) starts this coming Thursday night, December 7th. Google has added its Hanukkah decorations to the Google Search results interface to celebrate. Google does this every year and I expect to see the same rollout in the coming weeks for Christmas and Kawanzaa but for now, since Chanukah is in the coming days, we have the Hanukkah decorations live at Google Search.
